CAMINOS

A Good Idea

Description

The mission of CAMINOS is to help low-income, Latina immigrants living in San Francisco, CA create opportunities for self and economic improvement by teaching them how to use technology.

In order to overcome the poverty experienced by many Latinas living in San Francisco, CAMINOS aims to: (1) teach skills that are necessary to succeed in industries that pay livable wages, (2) offer an alternative to the CALWORKS training program that is inaccessible to those who speak limited or no English, (3) overcome the cycle of poverty that lack of information and access to resources can cause, and (4) provide classes in Spanish so that those who speak little to no English can take part in a technology training program.

CAMINOS provides one-on-one career counseling, professional and personal development workshops, and internship opportunities. Courses taught by CAMINOS include: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Basic Digital Literacy, and Computer Repair.
