A Good Idea

Description

The goal of the Illinois Dental Sealant Grant Program is to provide grant funds to public health service providers who aim to develop and implement school-based dental sealant programs.

This program targets second and sixth grade students who are enrolled in the National School Lunch Program. First time grantees can apply for a one-time award of $6,000 to purchase portable dental equipment. Grantees are required to submit monthly program reports and maintain written program protocols to assure adequate infection control, sealant retention, equipment maintenance, and patient referral and follow-up.

Goal / Mission

The goal of the Illinois Dental Sealant Grant Program is to provide grant funds and technical assistance to public health service providers to develop and implement school-based dental sealant programs.

Results / Accomplishments

Since the program began it has served more than 180,000 children, and has placed more than 504,000 dental sealants on 139,000 children.
