Child Care Provider Breastfeeding Education

Local

An Evidence-Based Practice

Description

The Child Care Provider Education program was implemented to support the 85% of Kansan mothers who choose to breastfeed. The program provides resources for child care providers to better support breastfeeding mothers and families. Upon completion of their 2-hour training course, graduates will have a better understanding of breastfed baby behavior as well as have learned to support the breastfeeding relationship using the latest techniques and research. The program also provides a free introductory course available on their website. In addition to the course, the program offers resources for providers to obtain a "Breastfeeding Friendly Child Care Providers” designation administered by Child Care Aware Kansas.

Additional resources to child care providers include: feeding tips, an Infant Feeding Guide and Plan, breastfeeding friendly books & toys, Policy Sample, Safe Infant Sleep and Breastfeeding Support: What to Consider When Looking for Child Care, Care Giver of the Breastfed Baby Handout and information on paced bottle feeding.
