Building Bridges

A Good Idea

Description

Founded in 1995, Building Bridges was one of the first AIDS Service Organizations in the state of Mississippi. The agency provides a continuum of services, including free HIV testing and counseling, prevention case management, support groups, prevention education (street and community outreach, venue-based outreach, condom distribution and group level interventions), food assistance programs, peer support services and assistance with housing opportunities for persons with AIDS.

Goal / Mission

Building Bridges has the overall mission of providing education, training, services, advocacy, and promoting the rights and dignity of individuals infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

Impact

Building Bridges provides free HIV testing, prevention case management, individual and group counseling, and referrals for additional needed services.

Results / Accomplishments

Building Bridges provides multiple services to Persons Living With HIV/AIDS. Free HIV Testing is provided, and trained staff collect samples and give confidential one on one risk assessments. Prevention Case Management is a client-centered HIV prevention activity with the fundamental goal of promoting the adoption and maintenance of HIV risk-reduction behaviors. Referrals are initiated and followed up for clients needing additional services including mental health treatment, substance abuse treatment, medical appointments, housing, and food boxes. Limited transportation services are provided to clients for doctor appointments and support group meetings.
